‘Cooper' the Wonder Dog

Every morning Cooper is up early and ready for work at the Care Cottage at Flaxton. Cooper is a gorgeous dog who has been rescued from Sippy Downs Animal Refuge by the Simpson family and now has found a second home at the cottage where Kyleigh and Cooper work together. This lucky dog has really landed on his feet and does a very good job caring for clients and thrives on all the attention.
“Cooper’s breed is a Hunterway which is a common dog in New Zealand where they are used on sheep farms,” said Kyleigh.
“He looks like a collie cross with his black and white coat.
“Cooper particularly likes to travel on the bus to collect the clients. The first stop is to collect Ilga on Wednesdays and Cooper sits up beside her and keeps her company on the trip to Maleny to pick up everyone else.
“This dog just seems to know how to make people feel special and will put a supportive paw on their lap and look into their eyes lovingly.
“Being calm and obedient Cooper also knows he can’t go into the kitchen or stay in the dining room while the client’s are eating. He does however manage to ‘con’ a few tit bits out of the kitchen staff and what dog wouldn’t do that?
Dogs are being used more and more in nursing homes and day respite centres, they even visit hospitals as they are loving, friendly and can really lift spirits. Chloe the cottage cat and Cooper the dog are tireless in delivering their own special therapy service for the clients, staff and visitors at the Care Cottage.
